We Are Disconnected From Taraba State - Aku Uka

The Aku Uka and Chairman of Taraba State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Shekarau Angyu Masa-Ibi, Kuvyon II, CON, has raised alarm that Southern Taraba has been disconnected from other parts of the State due to lack of media outreach or media outfits in the area.

According to the monarch, the people in the area are voiceless or cannot be heard, just as they rely on the neighbouring states to receive information on the happenings in the country and the world.

The Aku Uka who made the disclosure on Wednesday, 6th January, 2021 when the Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, PhD paid him homage in his palace at Wukari to felicitate with him on his 83rd birthday and 44th anniversary on the throne.

Against this background, he enjoined the Speaker to use his good offices to ensure that Southern Taraba is connected to the State in terms of media outreach or media outfits.

"As I talk to you, we have no voice and we cannot be heard, because information from the State owned media outfits cannot be disseminated to the Southern Taraba due to lack of media outreach or media outfits in the area," he said.

The monarch further disclosed that Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini PhD was the first Speaker of the Kwararafa extractions to ever paid him official visit, unlike his predecessors, just as he commended the Speaker for his leadership pedigree and sterling achievements in office.

He also informed the Speaker that he has almost completed the registration process of SHEKARAU MASA-IBI FOUNDATION to cater for needs of the less privileged and SHEKARAU MASA-IBI RESEARCH CENTRE to serve as the Jukun historical monument.

"I'm a restless monarch - right from the time of colonialisation in 1900, to amalgamation in 1914, to independence in 1960, to Northern Region, to Benue Plateau State,  to Gongola State, to Taraba State, the Wukari Kingdom has not settled down.

"I must commend the Speaker for his exemplary leadership and sterling achievements in office, and as the first Speaker of Kwararafa extractions to ever pay me official visit, unlike his predecessors.

"Rulership and leadership all have to do with patience; therefore whenever you are about to sleep, tell God and your ancestors to help you lead the people.

"God cannot ask you to account for the money or wealth you amass for yourself, but He will definitely ask you to give account of the people you lead," he stressed.

On the call for the conference of the Kwararafa descendants in the country, the monarch concurred with the Speaker, just as he also stated that the title of AKU UKA has never limited his influence and recognition among the Jukun race in the country, "since AKU UKA means the king who surpassed other kings."

Earlier in his speech, the Speaker congratulated the Aku Uka on his 83rd birthday and 44th anniversary on the throne, as well as the longest serving and living monarch in the North and second longest in the 425 years existence of the Wukari Kingdom, the first being Kuvyon I.

The Speaker also reiterated his call for the national conference of the Kwararafa descendants in the country  to showcase their rich history and cultural heritage to the whole world.

"Your Royal Majesty, I actually planned this courtesy visit a couple of years ago, even before I emerged as the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly in December 2019, but due to unforeseen circumstances it was put off till this great day. Therefore, this day will remain memorable in my life.

"Let me quickly felicitate with Your Royal Majesty on your 83rd birthday and 44th anniversary on the throne of the Kwararafa Empire, as well as being the longest serving traditional ruler in the North and the second longest in the Wukari Kingdom, the first being Kuvyon I. May God Almighty continue to grant you good health, long life and wisdom to rule the Jukun race in the country.

"I want to seize this rare opportunity to to reiterate my call for conference of Kwararafa descendants; this is because the Jukun race or Kwararafa descendants are spread across 26 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. Therefore, this is imperative to let the whole world know that the Jukun is a majority tribe in Nigeria and not minority tribe as the world was made to believe," he stated.
